Sun Style (Neijiaquan) Internal Family Boxing Systems Sun Style Xingyiquan The Sun Style Xingyiquan was created by Master Sun Lutang, who was taught by his Master Guo Yun Shen, out of all of the three main internal schools of Chinese martial arts (neijiaquan). Xingyiquan is considered to be the most direct. Xingyiquan is sometimes called Five Element Boxing as its basic forms are named after the elements of Metal (splitting), Water (drilling), Wood (penetrating), Fire (pounding) and Earth (crossing). But it is also sometimes known as Mind/Body Boxing as (xin) in Chinese means the heart, while (yi) means the intent or mind, hence Mind/Body Boxing. The aim within Sun Style Xingyiquan as a Chinese martial art is to develop whole body power (quan shen jing) this is achieved by developing fast, agile footwork that generates powerful striking, and blocking, kicking techniques. There is a saying that is mentioned by Xingyiquan students That the shortest line between defence and attack is a straight line this is an ideal term for what Xingyiquan is all about; it is very direct and strong in its forward movement. As an exercise for promoting good health and well-being than the practice of Xingyiquan develops a high level of cardio fitness and stamina, with its unique stepping movements it develops strong legs, improves balance and co-ordination and especially concentration.
