More females than ever were entering the paid workforce, and this increased the dissatisfaction among women regarding huge gender disparities in pay and at the workplace. One of the most profound changes was happening in the bedroom. By the end of the Sixties, more than 80 percent of women were using contraception, after the birth control pill was approved. This freed many women from unwanted pregnancy and gave them many more choices, and freedom, in their personal lives. Gradually, society came to accept some of the basic goals of the Sixties feminists: equal pay for equal work, an end to domestic violence, to sexual harassment, and sharing of responsibility for housework. New technology, such as dish and laundry washing machines, made it easier and faster for house works to be completed, therefore leisure time was at its peak: it was mainly spent at the parks, playing frisbee or hula-hoop. Excerpt from the Global Lives Project globallives.org Israel, better known by his nickname "Rael" in Portuguese, was born and raised in the city of São Paulo. He is a musician and leads a hip hop group called "Pentagono" based in the southern periphery of the city. At eight years old, Rael was already a fan of break dance. He would dance with his brother in the city center and at school talent shows. His father is also a musician and influenced Rael's tastes strongly, although he continues to believe that hip hop is not actually music. He prefers traditional Brazilian "Forro" and "Sertaneja" music, two styles popular in the far off Brazilian northeast, where he was born. Since the beginning of 2006, Rael has been working as a City Permit Inspector, working to prevent illegal street commerce in public right-of-ways. Rael also enjoys playing soccer with friends and going out with his girlfriend.

Wújí Quán, Zuì Quán "No Extremity (Chaos/Void) Boxing system, Drunken Boxing" * Drunken form from the Wuji Quan system. This is a good example of a traditional drunken form in that it still maintains the unique features of the system it is from and is focused on practical methods of combat. The Wuji Quan style is practiced in a few villages in the Cangzhou area of Hebei and in Tianjin. It is sometimes referred to as "Tianjin Wuji Quan" although it was introduced to Tianjin relatively recently (1930's), it became very popular there very quickly within a few years. Oral tradition on the origins of Wuji Quan vary, sometimes the art is associated with Yue Fei or Song dynasty royal guards. The farthest back the art can be traced is the Jiaqing period of the Qing dyasty (1796-1820) when Liu XianDao from the Wenzhou area of Zhejiang went north and taught the art to Cai JinTang of Henan province's Xinyang prefecture, Huaibin county. Later Cai Jintang traveled to Tianjin's Jinghai county and exchanged skills with Gao Zupo learning the Zi Long Da Qiang to augment his Wuji Quan system which up to that point contained no spear method. Part 1 of this dreading in Bangkok series. Dread locs being maintained and started at 2 salons at Kao San road in Bangkok Thailand. There are 5 different employees doing the crochet hook method. Showing how different people who do dreads all day do it. They are very quick and effective. They roll the loc in their left hand and poke the .65 mm crochet hook straight into and through the loc, then quickly slide it out going in the same direction as the curve of the hook. They repeat thousands of times. This video is shot over the period of 4 hours to show how long it takes to do dreads and maintain them, even by skilled workers. This method is a necessity if you do locs professionally! As I watch these videos I notice that their hand moves in two motions. One to pierce the loc, one to glide/curve the hook out.

Virginia based Christian Rock Band Stereoreel performing "Little Stronger" at Fandana Festival in Indiana. Stereoreel is a Christian rock'n'roll worship band that began as a personal project of Caleb Nei in the basement of his townhouse. Inspired by the life and psalms of King David, and energized by the innovative worship music of the time, Caleb set out to begin writing worship songs that explored the more creative boundaries of music and lyrics, while incorporating the sounds of the instrument he grew up on - the piano. In 2002, he began to write many of the songs that would eventually become the Save Me EP. With the help of drummer Dustin Martin, who Caleb met on a jazz gig, they began to record these songs with various friends. They traveled to the home studio of Doc Holladay in Nashville during 2007 to put the finishing touches on the EP. Moshe Ganchoff 1905 - 1997 "The Cantors' Cantor" Gleaned from many sources (Reprinted from JSM Vol 217 April 2011) Until the very end of his long career, Moshe Ganchoff represented our last connection to the style that earned hazzanut of the early 20th century the sobriquet: Golden Age. He was born in Odessa and emigrated as a young child with his parents to the United States. He received his early hazzanic training in Toledo, Ohio, to which several Odessa-trained cantors had gravitated: Simon Zemachson, Mendel Shapiro and Aryeh Leib Rutman, among them. In his teens he moved to New York for the purpose of studying with Joshua Lind, Jacob Rapaport, and Mordechai Hershman. In 1944 he succeeded David Roitman as cantor at Manhattan's Shaare Zedek on West 93rd Street. In 1957 he was engaged by Grossinger's Hotel in the Catskill Mountains resort area of upstate New York for all major holidays. This allowed him to guest-officiate and concertize widely, as well as to teach and compose. Over a period of 25 years he was featured in a weekly radio program on the Jewish Daily Forward's station, WEVD, and for each show he wrote a new composition. Shanxi Hongquan: Earliest records are from the Song Dynasty, it was called Xijia Quan (West Family Boxing) and later in the Wei period was renamed as Hongquan. In the olden days it was said (Dong Qiang Xi Gun) - [East Spear and West Staff], it was also said (Dong Cha, Zhi Chuo, Xi Hong) - [ East (Shandong) practices Cha (quan), Zhi (Hebei) practices Chuo (Jiao) and the West practices Hong (Quan) ] In the Qing dynasty the style was practiced by many both in Shanxi but also in Hebei etc....There were 4 well known masters that were responsible for the great propagation of the art ....these were Sanyuan's Yaozi 'Swallow' Gaosan (Master Gao Zhankui), Lin Tong county's Heihu 'Black Tiger' Xingsan (Master Xing Fuke), Tong Guan's county's E Hu 'Hungry Tiger' Susan , they spread the art all over China and the art became known as different brances such as Gao Family, Zhao Family and Xi Family (as per past.It is also thought that Shaolin Jueyuan (Baiyufeng) had studied some Shanxi arts and passed on versions of basic Hongquan to Shaolin. Since then however, the style through time absorbed the features of other schools of chinese martial arts and as a result Shanxi Hongquan is a compilation of many arts allbeit with the Hongquan at its core. John Melhuish Strudwick (6 May 1849 Clapham, London - 16 July 1937 Hammersmith), was a Victorian Pre-Raphaelite painter, the son of William Strudwick (1808--1861) and Sarah Melhuish (1800--1862). John Strudwick attended St Saviour's Grammar School in Southwark. Disliking the idea of a business career, he took classes at the Royal Academy Schools in South Kensington, but was not regarded as a promising student. In the 1860s he was encouraged by a visitor, the Scottish genre painter, John Pettie, whose style he subsequently emulated. His depiction of the ballad of 'Auld Robin Gray', which was exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists in 1873, is an example of this period. His art style, however, developed in a new direction in the 1870s when he worked first as studio assistant to his uncle Spencer Stanhope and then to Edward Burne-Jones. In keeping with artists in his circle, he exhibited at the Grosvenor and New Galleries. Strudwick's studio was in Hammersmith, close to that of Burne-Jones and Thomas Matthews Rooke, who had also been an assistant to Burne-Jones. He married Harriet Reed and had a single daughter, Ethel (1880--1954), who later became High Mistress of St Paul's Girls' School from 1927 to 1948, and was awarded a CBE. His initial success as a painter came to an end when wealthy and influential patrons such as the Liverpool shipowners William Imrie and George Holt withdrew their support.
