Qur'an 33:56; 'Verily, Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet: O you who believe! Send blessings on him, and salute him with a worthy salutation.' Tirmidhi related from Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said 'the closest people to me on the Day of Resurrection will be those who invoked the most blessings upon me.' This is from what is recited in Tarim, Hadramaut, Yemen, in Praise of the Prophet, the one who is most oft Praised. It is from the poetry written by one of the righteous scholars in Yemen today, Habib Umar bin Salim in the traditional school Dar al-Mustafa located in Tarim (Hadramawt). SHAAM came together in late 1997 seeking to present and re-interpret traditional Islamic songs known as nasheeds - a genre that originates from the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). These spiritually uplifting songs seek to praise Allah and His final Messenger. They are distinguished by their emphasis upon vocals and percussion only, with stringed and wind instruments being shunned in deference to orthodox Islamic precepts. It is this style of song that SHAAM have mastered over the past few years.
