Belita Woods was a rarity from people in the entertainment field.Belita was a pure spirit,who always chose to see the good in everyone,even those who would go on to use and abuse her,take advantage of her generous nature,and take from her with no intention of giving anything back to her.Belita and I started in kindergarten together,and we began singing together in the third grade at Boynton Elementary as members of the glee club.Our vocal instructor was the late Mr. Bernard Wilkins.Belita was the very first female I had ever sung duets with.We sang together throughout elementary school,Jr high school (Morley located in Del Ray),and high school (Southwestern).I last spoke with Belita by phone April 30th of this year (2012).I called her at 10am and we talked until 2pm.We talked about our families,our parents and our sisters and brothers,and what each sibling had done with their life.Belita had quadruple bypass surgery some months earlier,and we compared notes on how our life styles had changed because of our cardiac challenges.We discussed diet,water intake and retention,exercise,and spiritual growth and awareness.We talked about metaphysical healing and our beautiful grandchildren.Belita stated that more than anything else,her period of recuperation and recovery had given her the opportunity to spend precious time with her children and grandchildren,something she wasn't able to do spending most of her time on the road.While in the 12th grade,I had begun to play upright ...
